What effect does not having a father have on a girl or woman?
I'm really looking for personal experiences of those who have grown up w/o fathers in their lives.
My father abandoned my mother(and two sisters) while she was pregnant with me. He was abusive to her & honestly it was the best thing that could have happened to us all. But I wonder how I would be different if I had had a father growing up. I'm almost 28 now and I have 2 of my own children and they have a wonderful father….I honestly can't imagine doing this job on my own.

Has your mom been in contact with your father at all? Do either of you know if he has matured in the last 13 years. Most ppl do, but you can never be sure. Obviously your mom has been hurt by your dad very much. How is she going to react if he is in your life? Have you asked what she thinks about you writing him?
Really in the long run, it is not about her thoughts guess. It is about you getting to know your father. If he is still a jerk, I wouldn't want to advise you to get involved only to get hurt. On the other hand, you may never know if you do not write and introduce the idea. If it were me, I would not have the restraint. I would write a nice long letter and in the long run, it would be up to him to respond. If you can get the extra money ($2 I think) mail it certified so you can find out if he got it. That way you will have no doubt if he never responds. I am guessing you will get some kind of response though. Be sure if you write him to let him know that you would like a response even if it is only to let you know that he'd rather not correspond. Don't forget to give him your email address too in case he has a computer.

What I'm about to say varies a bit depending on where you live.
It depends on how old the child is. If the non-biological father already has an emotional relationship with the child, and is already taking responsibility for the child's financial support, then the law will not leave your child without a father just because of biology. It might be different if the biological father was alive, but in the face of a non-biological father who is willing and interested in maintaining a relationship with the child, what you're proposing is erasing his name and replacing it with nothing. The law doesn't like that.

Yes you can file for one as one. You have the same rights weather you are representing yourself or have an attorney. There is nothing wrong with representing yourself (especially with the cost of attorneys) the only thing is you need to do lots of research and be well prepared and organized when you enter the court room.
And as far as what would the bases be I really do not have an answer on that but I definitly wouldn't use the "She did it so I did it". If you have nothing to hide it would probably look better if you just went ahead and provided the documentation that is being ask for.

Here is some iformation;
Considered married. You are considered married for the whole year if on the last day of your tax year you and your spouse meet any one of the following tests.
You are married and living together as husband and wife.
You are living together in a common law marriage that is recognized in the state where you now live or in the state where the common law marriage began.
You are married and living apart, but not legally separated under a decree of divorce or separate maintenance.
You are separated under an interlocutory (not final) decree of divorce. For purposes of filing a joint return, you are not considered divorced.
For the form, I would just use turbotax because there could be many different forms depending on; trust, roth, retirement account, property etc. This software cost about $30 and is worth the expense.

i grew up w/o a father but had an abusive stepfather. it would be hard to say what difficulties have been most caused by whom. to me a father would have provided a male to validate my being female. a man to say i love you because you are you. a man to teach me how to respect myself as a woman. a father would have protected me from abuse. my husband is also a good father to the kids but i feel insecure with him. i fear that i am not enough…not good enough, not fun enough, not worth enough, not attractive enough. logically i know this is not true but it can be tough to get down to the core feelings of abandonment. i also wonder how i would be different if i had had a good father. good luck with your search for answers.
